New project begins with Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust
We are delighted to announce an exciting project with Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.
Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust provides a wide range of mental health, physical health and learning disability services for people across Hampshire, serving a population of around 1.5 million people, with a team of 6,500 staff working from over 300 sites.
Recent research by Stonewall, found that one in seven LGBT people avoid treatment for fear of discrimination because they are LGBT. One in eight have experienced some form of unequal treatment from healthcare staff because they are LGBT and nearly one in four LGBT people have witnessed discriminatory or negative remarks against LGBT people by healthcare staff.

Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust has commissioned this innovative new project with us as part of their commitment to supporting their LGBT colleagues and the LGBT population who seek care with the Trust.
We will look at the experiences of LGBT staff and patients to identify areas to enhance their experience with the Trust, developing bespoke training and guidance to support everyone within the Trust in embedding positive change throughout the organisation.
Paul Draycott, Chief People Officer at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust comments “We are delighted to build on our existing work with Oakley Consulting to really understand the experiences of our LGBTQ+ communities and staff. It is vital that we continue to improve the access, experiences and outcomes for all, and this will be a significant step forward for us.”
Rhiannon Oakley, co-director of Oakley Coaching adds, “We are thrilled to be working with Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust to improve the care they provide to LGBT patients and equip staff with enhanced understanding, awareness and confidence to meet the specific health needs of LGBT colleagues and service users. Southern Health has demonstrated their commitment to improving the experiences of LGBT patients and colleagues and we are proud to be working alongside them to meet this aim.”
